Google Reader is a place where you can post all the links to blogs you like to look at, so they are all in one place. I read about 30 blogs, so this is very handy.
Becoming a Follower of a blog is just a fun way to show that you're reading that blog. And it also shows up in Google Reader.
You don't have to have a Google email address to use Reader. If you've shipped Amazon, you have a Google account.
