James has the week off of work, so we are going to spend four or five days camping down at Crater Lake.
The drive down has been nice. There are two camp sites we're thinking about: Diamond Lake and Collier Memorial State Park. Diamond Lake is five miles from the north entrance to Crater Lake and Collier Memorial is 25 miles from the south entrance.
We're at Diamond Lake scouting it out to see if it is a place we want to camp. The lake is pretty, but there are soooo many gnats that we've decided to not even get out of the van. On to Collier Memorial. Hopefully there aren't any gnats!
Well, no gnats at Collier Memorial, but there are a lot of ground squirrels here. A LOT!! I'm afraid that one might jump on Gibson, or that he'll try to pick one up. They're really brave little critters and come right up to us.
We have pitched our tent and discovered that it is a lot bigger than we thought it was, and it doesn't really fit into our campsite. There is a campsite a few spaces down that looks like it has more space.
Ok, so now we are in our new campsite. We dragged all of our stuff over from the previous site. We amused some of our neighbor campers by walking our pitched tent down the road to our site. One lady was also laughing because I wheeled Gibson in his pack & play from one site to the other.
We're not really sure how we're going to keep Gibson contained in our site, but we'll see how it goes. He's wandering all around and wants to help us set up the rest of the camp. He's intrigued by James getting the wood ready for a fire.
James just put Gibson into the alcove of our tent which doesn't have a floor, and the tarp doesn't cover the entire area. Gibson has discovered dirt.
My towhead is now a brunette and tanner than he will ever be. I'm going to take him to the showers because if we put him in a tub, we'll have a mud puddle.
Well, that was an adventure for both of us. Gibson wasn't really appreciative of the warm water falling on his head. I wasn't really appreciative of the warm water turning cold on my pant legs.
It is now 8:00 pm. Gibson is in his crib, but not going to sleep. James and I are reading by the fire that isn't lit. We're afraid we won't be able to keep Gibson away from a fire, so we're not going to start one. The ground squirrels have finally gone to bed. There are a few mosquitoes, but not many.
Okay, spoke too early. We put on bug spray, but it didn't help me much, so I'm going into the tent to read. Gibson is still awake, and it's now about 9:20. I hope he sleeps well tonight.
