We've been in our temporary apartment for five days now. It is furninshed nicely with many amenities. However, the dish service only serves six, so the dishes have to be washed at least once every day, if not twice.
The apartment is on the outside of a very large complex and faces a very busy main street to the freeway. Since the windows are single pane with metal frames, we have a lot of street noise at all times of the day and night. Traffic dies down a bit between midnight and 3:00, but then picks up again quickly. There are also a lot of emergency vehicles going by, at least four a day. The kids run to the window everytime they hear the sirens coming and screech out what just zoomed past, "I saw an am-bwee-ence go by, Mom!!"
The kids are having fun running around the apartment. It is longer than our house was, so they have a nice stretch of straight from their bedroom to the master bedroom at the other end of the house. They've bumped heads a few times near the kitchen however, since they can't see each other over the counter and don't bother to look where they are running.
Since we are near March Air Force Reserve, we see a lot of airplanes and jets. A cargo airplane does touch and goes multiple times every day. And the kids make sure that I know every time they see it.
Here is the view from our porch. It is a lovely view of the hills. I think it will take me some time to get used to seeing hills covered in rocks instead of trees. I miss green.
